The holiday season is steeped in fellowship and family tradition. If your anything like us at Hale’s Chimney Cleaning & Repair, a lot of those traditions are set against the backdrop of your fireplace. Although there are many holiday activities that you can enjoy with your family around your fireplace, we would like to share some of our favorites with you!

Fireplace Cuisine

Let’s face it, some foods just taste better when prepared over an open flame. If you’re looking for a snack that is delicious and fun to make, try making popcorn over your fireplace. Most stores that sell camping supplies sell open fire popcorn poppers, but you can also use jiffy pop as well. If you want to be ambitious, you can try making a whole meal in your fireplace by making a campfire foil pack. For these meals, you basically wrap up your favorite food in tin foil and set them in the fire to cook. For some tips on how to prepare your tinfoil pack, check out this link. Once you’ve made dinner, next comes dessert, and one of the most iconic fireplace desserts is, of course, s’mores! Nothing beats enjoying a warm, gooey, delicious treat around a glowing fire with your loved ones.

Holiday Magic

The holidays are a magical time of year, so why not add a hint of magic to your fireplace activities as well. The fireplace is, after all, where Santa Claus comes into your home to deliver presents. There are a number of stores that sell “magic” pine cones that change the color of your fire’s flame and will entrance children and adults alike.

Once the children go to bed, it’s time for Santa to leave his presents. Wouldn’t it be nice to leave a little evidence of his arrival? Leave a trail of snowy footprints from your chimney to your Christmas tree by creating a stencil of a boot print and sprinkling baking soda, powdered sugar, or glitter on top of it. It will appear that Santa walked through your home with his snowy boots after coming down the chimney.

Story Telling

The dancing flames of a fireplace set the perfect ambiance for telling holiday stories. Whether you like to recite classic Christmas poems, or tell stories from your own Christmas experiences, nothing quite brings a family together like conversing around a fire.
